With Halloween fast approaching I started thinking about spooky movie nights with friends, Halloween parties and get togethers. If you are having people over for a small get together this spooky season a snack board is a great way to display food for your guests. It’s not only aesthetically pleasing but it is also practical by having the food all in one place. If you want to get some tips as to how to make a Halloween snack board then keep on reading.
DIY HALLOWEEN SNACK BOARD
CHOOSE A TRAY
The first step is to make a list of all the people you will be having over and deciding on how big you want your snack tray to be. If there are any dietary restrictions then consider making two or more snack trays.
A great way to display food items for people with different food preferences is to look for cute popcorn bags, bowls or containers to put their snacks in. Get creative. If you have adorable halloween mugs you can use those to put snacks in. By doing this you will assure them that there’s no cross contamination with other food items.
SHOPPING FOR SNACKS
If you are shopping for Halloween theme snacks it’s better to shop for these items as early as possible in the season. From personal experience I have learned that the closer you get to Halloween things start selling out.
For my spooky Halloween snack board I decided to only include vegan food items as as I am plant-based. Finding vegan snacks is really easy. You can find vegan food items at Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Amazon and so on.
If you are shopping for vegan candy a great place to look is Home Goods or TJ Maxx. I have found some incredibly delicious vegan snacks at those places before.
When shopping for food items consider buying some fruits and veggies as well. You can create some fun Halloween theme snacks with healthy foods. For example, you can create little pumpkins with oranges or mandarins. Just add a pretzel stick or a celery piece in the middle as the stem. You can also create ghosts with marshmallows by adding raisins as the eyes or using frosting. The possibilities are endless.
Some snack food items to shop for are, popcorn, chips, candy, pretzels, oranges, mandarins, marshmallows, cookies, carrots, raisins, crackers, vegan cheese or dip.
HOW TO DISPLAY YOUR SPOOKY SNACKS
Displaying the snacks is always the fun part. This is where you can get as creative as possible. If you’re unsure as to how to display your food items consider laying them out in a pattern. You can also arrange food items by color.
Like I mentioned beforehand my snack boards are always vegan but a great way to provide fun non-vegan options for family and friends is to include separate bowls of popcorn where they can add their own toppings such as candy or marshmallows if they choose too. You can also buy bags of chips or other snacks and display them separately in cute containers.
