October Reading Wrap Up

Happy Sunday!

This month I read a total of two books. I usually read four to six books a month but I have been in the worst reading slump since August. Since I didn’t read any of the books on my September TBR video I decided against doing an October TBR video for this month. Instead I decided to read two books that really stood out to me from my September TBR pile of books. I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern was such a magical read. I was expecting this book to be more like The Hunger Games for some reason but it wasn’t like that at all. This book follows Marco and Celia who are competing in a game that they both have been training for since they were children. They each have a teacher and they learn magic differently. The game takes place at a circus that travels the world. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the circus; it tends to just show up without any notice. The circus is full of magic, mystery and interesting characters. My favorite characters in the book were the twins and I wish there would have been more of them in the book.

Morgenstern created such a vivid world that I was instantly hooked. I have never read a book like The Night Circus and I think that anyone who loves reading books with magic and really interesting story lines would enjoy this one.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab is definitely one of my favorite books that I have read this year so far. This is also an adult fiction with a lot of magic and it has four different Londons. This book follows Kell and Delilah Bard (Lila) as they try to save the multiple Londons. I think that what I really love about this book are the characters. Kell, Lila, and Rhy have such distinct personalities and it was so much fun reading about them. Lila in particular is such a strong character. Throughout the book she is constantly standing up for herself and I loved that. I don’t want to give away too much about this book so I will stop here. V.E. Schwab is one of my new favorite authors and I can’t wait to start reading A Gathering of Shadows.
