Hello! It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post but I’m back. Earlier on in the week I posted a video on my YouTube channel about things you can do while social distancing and I really wanted to expand on that video and give you all some more ideas on what to do when you’re stuck at home.

BOOKS

Today I wanted to focus more on the relaxing things you can do at home, and I wanted to start by recommending some books. In my video I talked about a few book series but I wanted to focus on YA books for this post. Personally I find reading YA very relaxing. I prefer to read a lot of fantasy fiction so here are my top recommendations:

Legacy of Orisha Series by Tomi Adeyemi: Children of Blood and Bone is the first book in this series and it is one of the best YA books I’ve read in a really long time. This series has strong main characters, magic and incredible worldbuilding. I highly recommend this series.

An Ember In the Ashes Series by Sabaa Tahir: This series is for adventure lovers. I found myself on the edge of my seat throughout the first three books (can’t wait for the next book to come out!) and I think you will too.

Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas: The Throne of Glass series is one of my favorite series. I think Sarah J. Maas writes villains and romance really well. If you like reading about assassins and you enjoy a bit of romance in your books then I think you’ll really enjoy these books.

The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare: You can’t go wrong with The Mortal Instruments. I almost want to say it’s a guilty pleasure but why should I feel guilty about reading these books? They’re a great read and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. This series is great for anyone that loves fantasy, magic, adventure, and a lot of romance.

YOGA & PILATES

I recently started getting back into yoga and pilates and I am so glad that I have. I always feel really relaxed after doing a little bit of yoga or pilates so I thought maybe you would too. Some of my favorite videos to follow along to are:

Yoga with Adriene: This is one of my new favorite YouTube channels. Adriene has a lot of yoga videos you can follow along to. My favorite ones are the 30 Days of Yoga videos. I think a lot of her videos are beginner friendly, so if you’re new to yoga I think you might really like her videos.

Gaiam DVDs: I am a big fan of Gaiam yoga and pilates DVDs. I really like these because they usually have more than one workout so you can mix it up and not get bored.

MEDITATION

Meditation is something I’m trying to do more regularly again. Nothing makes me feel more calm and relaxed than meditating. I like to follow along to meditation videos, apps, and sometimes I like to use tarot and oracle cards to self reflect. Here are some of my favorites.

Alo Yoga YouTube Channel: The Alo Yoga guided meditations are some of my favorites. They have different people do the meditations so you can follow along to the ones you like best.

Yoga With Adriene: Adriene doesn’t just have yoga videos she also has some amazing meditation videos. These are great; you can just play them on your phone and follow along.

Oak App: The oak app is my favorite meditation app. It has a few free meditations so that’s a plus.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Since we are all social distancing I feel like now is the perfect time to learn something new. I’ve been thinking about learning how to knit but I just don’t think I have the patience for that, so instead I’m focusing on learning more about astrology. Astrology has been something I have always wanted to learn more about so I am looking forward to that. If you’re into this kind of stuff then you might also be interested in learning more about tarot. I mentioned above how I like to use tarot for self-reflection. Some of my favorite YouTubers that talk about tarot are Kelly Ann Maddox and The Truth in Story.

Other things you can learn while you’re at home are cooking, painting/ drawing, or even learning how to play an instrument. There is so much free content out there for you to use and learn something new.

If you have any other recommendations on relaxing things you can do while social distancing please leave them down in the comments.
