Lately I’ve been reading a lot of romance books. I blame BookTok for that one. I have read some not so great ones and some that were utterly heart wrenching that I couldn’t stop crying. Here are my top picks for those looking for romance books that will pull at your heartstrings.

Such Sharp Teeth is my most recent romance read and it is definitely one to add to your TBR if you love books with werewolves in them. Out of all the books on this list Such Sharp Teeth is the most lighthearted read but it definitely doesn’t shy away from some serious topics.
DON’T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME BY MHAIRI MCFARLANE
Everyone remembers their first love. Some couples move on and others stay together or eventually find each other later in life. Don’t You Forget About Me isn’t just a romance novel. It’s also a novel about a woman finding herself and coming to terms with her past.
THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE BY V.E. SCHWAB
Have you ever thought about what it would be like to live forever? The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is a book that’s one of a kind. It is one of those books that will stay with you long after you’re done reading it. I would say this book is for everyone but especially for those who love fantasy and romance.
EVERY LAST WORD BY TAMARA IRELAND STONE
Every Last Word is a powerful read. This story explores mental illness in a way I haven’t seen many young adult books do before. If you read and enjoyed Turtles All The Way Down by John Green then this book might also be one you fall in love with.
THE BLACK WITCH BY LAURIE FOREST ( FIRST BOOK IN THE BLACK WITCH CHRONICLES)
Anyone that loves fantasy with a lot of different magical elements and species will love The Black Witch by Laurie Forest. This is one of the many books that came across my “for you” page on TikTok and I am glad that it did. This series has powerful characters and plot. It is gripping from the start.
A THOUSAND BOY KISSES BY TILLIE COLE
Heartbreaking is the first word I would use to describe A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole. This story takes place over the span of a few years. This novel explores romance, and loss.
IF HE HAD BEEN WITH ME BY LAURA NOWLIN
This is the book that had me crying the longest. Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to describe how this book had me feeling towards the end. There is romance, heartbreak, friendship, and loss. If you want a heart wrenching read then this is it.
THE SECRET OF YOU AND ME BY MELISSA LENHARDT
If you are looking for an LGBTQ romance then check out The Secret of You and Me by Melissa Lenhardt. This is a book that takes a closer look into the lives of two women who are in love with each other but are not accepted by some family members and community. It is definitely a must read.
EVEN IF IT HURTS BY MARNI MANN
Even If It Hurst is an emotional read. What would you do if you were in love with two people at the same time? Who do choose? How do you choose? These are all questions that will come up if you end up reading this book. At times it feels like an emotional rollercoaster. However, it’s not one I regret reading. This book will probably make you cry so be prepared.
