The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh is a book unlike any other I have ever read. This is a re-telling of A Thousand and One Nights, and it is a beautiful one.

The Wrath and The Dawn is about Khalid the Caliph of Khorasan who takes a new bride every night and kills her by dawn. No one knows why the king is doing this. Then comes in Shahrzad who volunteers to be his next wife after her best friend is killed. She is determined to get revenge for her best friends death. She manages to stay alive by telling Khalid stories that she refuses to end. Khalid being so enthralled by the stories keeps her alive. However, this doesn’t keep Shahrzad from fearing for her life as dawn approaches.

An unexpected turn is when Shahrzad starts falling for the young King and she struggles with her feelings towards Khalid and the reality that he killed her best friend, as well as many others.

This book is told from different perspectives which makes this story even more captivating. The minor characters also really stand out with their different personalities.

This story has suspense, love triangles, amazing fashion, and mystery. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read. If you’re wondering if you will find out why Khalid is killing his brides you will be happy to know that everything is reveled in the end.

The sequel to this book comes out on May 3, 2016.
