For basic tops I have found thermal tops to be incredibly useful for fall and winter. They are great for layering especially when you need extra warmth without looking too bulky. The Heattech line from Uniqlo is a great reliable option.
2. Cardigan: Gap Factory Crewneck Cardigan
A simple black cardigan will go a long way in your winter wardrobe. You can style a a thin mock neck or turtleneck top underneath your cardigan and style it with some black jeans or pants for a cute office look. You could also wear this cardigan on its own with jeans for a more casual everyday look.

This would be another clothing item that can easily be layered. For example, you can layer a turtleneck or mock neck top underneath for a cute dark academia look, or you can style it underneath a puffer vest for a more athletic look.

6. Mock Neck Top: Uniqlo Heattech Warm Shirt
Another Uniqlo must-have is this Heattech shirt. Mock neck tops are great for cold-weather outfits. If you want a practical no fuss top for work then a mock neck top is a great option.
You can style it with a simple pair of pants, jeans, or skirt. It also layers nicely under cardigans, sweaters and puffer vests.
It would also look great layered underneath a dress with thin straps. It’s a great way to wear dresses you wouldn’t normally wear during the colder months of the year.

7. Pants: Old Navy Wide Leg Trousers
Wide leg pants are great because you can easily wear fleece lined tights underneath for extra warmth. I have found that it looks less bulky with wider leg pants than trying to style tights with more form-fitting bottoms.
I recently became a big Old Navy fan when I discovered they carried tall sizes. So, if you are on the look out for pants for work or other items you might need in a different length other than regular then definitely check them out.
8. Fleece Lined Tights: Vosda Lined Tights
If you could only pick one new thing to buy from this blog post I would say go for the fleece lined tights. They make all the difference when it comes to staying warm during the winter. You can wear these under jeans, pants and with skirts.

When I was in college in Chicago I always remember seeing a lot of people walking or taking the train to their jobs, and a lot of them had on long puffer jackets. The North Face and Canada Goose jackets are the ones I saw the most during winter.
